Our History

The dream for Glory of Christ Fellowship was born in the heart of Mike Perry in November of 2000 who later found a visionary partner in Greg Chaffin. Together they submitted a “church planting proposal” to the Church Planting Committee of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Minneapolis, and then met with the Committee in June of 2005. The Committee was hopeful about the prospects of starting a new church in the Elk River area, and therefore in December of 2005 they appointed Pastor Charlie as the official liaison between the Committee and these men.

In the course of Pastor Charlie’s, Mike and Greg asked him to consider being the Pastor of the new church and within a few weeks he agreed. Thus, Bethlehem Baptist Church hired him as their Church Planting Resident for one year and gave him the task of starting this new church. With the help of the staff at Bethlehem, Pastor Charlie was able to recruit Kevin Feder to be our Pastor for Family Ministries, both of whom began serving the church full-time on August 1, 2007.

For some months, a small group of families began to gather at a home in Rogers, but when the group outgrew the house we moved over to the “barn” on Twin Lakes Road in Elk River, thanks to our good friends Craig and Lisa Howse! Then, in August of 2007 we secured office space in Rogers, and later in Elk River, and in September of 2007 we began to conduct Sunday morning worship services at the Handke Family Center in Elk River.

In God’s time, our hope is to acquire land or an existing building and develop a base of operations with which we can better fulfill our mission to make disciples for the glory of Christ.

Glory of Christ Fellowship is affiliated with the Treasuring Christ Together Network (TCTN) with is the church planting network started by Bethlehem Baptist Church. Accordingly, Pastor Charlie and Pastor Kevin attend monthly meetings with other TCTN pastors for the sake of fellowship, spiritual and leadership growth, and accountability.

Glory of Christ is also affiliated with the Minnesota Baptist Conference (MBC) and Converge Worldwide (CW), formerly the Baptist General Conference. The MBC is a region within the CW which is a national denominational organization. To learn more about the MBC and the CW, please visit www.mbcworld.org.
